Hybrid, Influence & Effects Department (HIED)
WHAT IS HIED?
HIED addresses Strategic Communications (STRATCOM), and the effects of STRATCOM-related topics, in combination with a broad insight into Hybrid, Irregular and Asymmetric warfare including the role of Special Operations Forces.
The Strategic Communications (StratCom) courses provide students with the fundamentals of NATO StratCom, specifically focused on the comprehensive coordination, consistency and credibility of all means of communications. StratCom-related courses e.g. Military Information Operations, Psychological Operations, Military Public Affairs, in addition to Civil- Military Cooperation and Defence against Terrorism, complete the HIED portfolio. Additional courses for StratCom Practitioners and for Digital Outreach are currently under development.
The Hybrid and Irregular Warfare syllabus aims to provide students with a broad insight into asymmetric threats, including analysis and counter capabilities, in addition to an introduction to NATO Special Operations, its forces and their employment. Further studies include the integration of Special Operations Forces into joint operations with a target audience of senior staff from national defence ministries, defence colleges and universities.
