Learning Objectives

Explain Biological Defence Fundamentals: Given references, the student will explain the NATO CBRN defence policy and its organizational structure in accordance with NATO doctrine and standardization agreements.

Describe Biological Warfare Risks, Hazards, and Threats: Given references, the student will describe the characteristics, effects and impacts of biological weapons and agents on operations in accordance with NATO doctrine and standardization agreements.

Demonstrate NATO Biological Defence Components: Given references, the student will illustrate the components and capabilities of CBRN Defence to defeat or mitigate the threat of biological warfare agents or events in accordance with NATO doctrine and standardization agreements.

Course Participants

Military officers (OF-1 through OF-5) and NCOs (OR-5 through OR-9), or civilian equivalent, assigned to CBRN Defence-related functions at NATO/PfP Headquarters and national Ministries of Defence, Foreign Affairs department, or subordinate military headquarters, units, or agencies, as well as CBRN defence organizations which fulfils responsibilities in support of NATO CBRN defence operations.

Methodology

The course is structured to achieve lesson objectives through a series of methodically sequenced lectures followed by question-and-answer periods with class discussions and an off-site trip. The intent of the course is to also facilitate an exchange of information and experiences related to CBRN defence within the NATO Alliance.

In reference to a Memorandum of Understanding between NATO School and Tor Vergata University, M3-81 Course represents a module related to Biological Aspects of the 2nd Level International Master Course in Protection against CBRN events for Decision Maker’s Advisors. A final exam (optional) is available to the students for ECTS recognition in accordance with the Bologna Process and Lisbon Recognition Convention.

Further Information

Must have graduated from M3-70 NATO CBRN Defence Orientation Course or national equivalent.
