Learning Objectives

Nuclear Surety in ACO: Given references, the student will apply the Joint NATO/USEUCOM approach to nuclear surety in ACO in accordance with ACO Directive 80-6 Chapters 1-4 and DOD 520.41.M.

Nuclear Weapon Safety: Given references, the student will describe nuclear weapon safety characteristics and current safety programmes in accordance with ACO Directive 80-6 Chapters 1-4, DOD 520.41.M, and EUCOM CONPLAN 4367.

Weapon Security and Survivability Systems (WS3): Given references, the student will demonstrate the security and custody procedures associated with the WS3 in accordance with ACO Directive 80-6 Chapters 1-4 and DOD 520.41.M.

Course Participants

Military OR-5 thru OR-9, OF-1 to OF-4 (or civilian equivilant), assigned to ACO DCA surety operations. Eligible personnel are from:
-National HQ or unit responsible for nuclear surety;
-Custodial nation HQ or unit responsible for nuclear surety;
-A staff position, including members of the JTSMG, with duties related to nuclear surety.

Methodology

This one-week course is comprised of formal lectures with question-and-answer periods. There are three group syndicate exercises on various scenarios based on real-world experiences and ACO Directive 80-6. A culminating open-book exam concludes the course by incorporating all of the learning objectives.
