To provide students with foundational knowledge of Strategic Communications (StratCom) in the NATO environment, particularly on ensuring consistency and credibility of communications by all means through comprehensive coordination.

Learning Objectives
Introduction to the Political Agenda of NATO, the STRATCOM Concept and Policy:
Given a set of references, the student will summarize NATOs main reference documents for StratCom and the overarching role of the political bodies in accordance with the NATO Strategy.
NATO STRATCOM and its relation to other disciplines:
Given a set of references and lectures, the student will describe the communications related disciplines and how they affect effective military operations, in particular the need for synchronisation between StratCom and other military actions and the effects in the information environment.
STRATCOM Application in Crisis Response Planning and Measuring Effects:
Given a scenario, the student will, as part of a team, apply the contents of the NATO PSYOPS Doctrine in relation to the requirements of the Comprehensive Operations Planning Directive in accordance with COPD.
Perception Management and the Impact of the Media:
Given a set of references, the student will describe the impact of traditional media, new media and social media on the perception and behaviour of humans.
Application of Theory:
Given a set of references, the student will develop a StratCom framework, applying the theory of the previous modules.
Course Participants
Senior Level NATO Officers (OF-5 through OF-8) and equivalent NATO civilians; non StratCom related practitioners.

Methodology
This one week course is comprised of five modules which build upon each other. Topics will be illustrated with in-class lectures from political-military strategic level, via the operational level down to the tactical application. Best practice examples and case studies from NATO operations prepare the students for their hands-on exercise.
