Aim
Introduce students to the principles of NATO Alternative Analysis, the application of Alternative Analysis tools and techniques in support of decision-making and problem solving. This course will also prepare the student for the role of Alternative Analysis Facilitator.

Learning Objectives
Understand NATO Alternative Analysis Capability and Theory.:
Given references, students will be able to explain the overall NATO Alternative Analysis (AltA) capability and critical thinking theories related to AltA application in accordance with the NATO Alternative Analysis Handbook.
Explain Roles and Interactions of ALTA Facilitators.:
Given references, students will be able to describe the roles and interactions of AltA Facilitators, AltA focal points, problem owners, and the chain of command in accordance with the NATO Alternative Analysis Handbook.
Apply ALTA Problem-Solving Techniques.:
Given scenarios, students will apply AltA techniques in support of problem-solving and decision-making across all NATO staff functions in accordance with the NATO Alternative Analysis Handbook.
Comprehend the Four Phases of ALTA Process:
Given scenarios, students will apply the four phases of the AltA process in accordance with the NATO Alternative Analysis Handbook.
Demonstrate ALTA Facilitation:
Given a scenario and as part of a group, students will demonstrate AltA facilitation skills in accordance with the NATO Alternative Analysis Handbook.
Understand ALTA Collaboration Platform:
Given access to TRANSNET portal, students will be able to explain and use the AltA Collaboration Platform.
Explain Use of ALTA Other Organizations:
Given references, students will be able to explain how other organisations apply AltA or equivalent techniques.
Course Participants
Military non-commissioned officers and officers (OR-5 through OF-5) or civilian equivalent who are assigned, or selected for assignment, to a position in a NATO/Partner Headquarters or Agency, a NATO/Partner subordinate military headquarters, unit or agency of any NATO country which fulfils responsibilities in support of NATO. Priority is given to NATO Command Structure Peacetime Establishment personnel.

Methodology
This one-week course is comprised of interactive plenary lectures, followed by brief, moderated Q&A sessions alternating with facilitated work in small syndicates. Case studies and scenarios are also considered to identify best practice and lessons identified.
