This course introduces the widespread problem of trafficking in human beings (THB) and examines the options available to combat this crime. It also introduces the NATO policy on combating trafficking in human beings and the impact of THB on NATO-led operations.

Learning Objectives
What is Trafficking in Human Beings:
At the end of this module, you will able to:
- Explain what human trafficking is and how it is defined in international law;
- Indicate what countries, economic sectors and industries are affected by human trafficking;
- Identify why human trafficking occurs;
- Recognize who is most at risk of becoming a victim of human trafficking and what can be done
Trafficking in Human Beings: Victims and Perpetrators:
At the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Explain why it is important to identify victims;
- Indicate what be done for prevention;
- Explain how victims of human trafficking can be protected;
- Describe the background of trafficking victims and explain stereotyped of trafficking in women;
- Define what is child trafficking and explain the purpose of child trafficking;
- Define the difference between traffickers and perpetrators and identify them;
- Explain how they work;
- Identify victims of trafficking and explain how trafficked victims can be best supported;
- Know the special; need of trafficked children.
NATO Policy on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings:
At the end of this module, you will able to:
- Describe the NATO policy of combating trafficking in human beings;
- Explain what zero-tolerance policy means;
- Know why NATO has a zero-tolerance policy;
- Describe the general principles of the NATO policy;
- Explain the implementing guidelines;
- Describe the general principles of the NATO guidelines;
- Explain the principles and standards of behaviour;
Impact of Trafficking in Human Beings on NATO-led Operations:
At the end of this module, you will able to:
- Describe key characteristics of organized crime;
- Identify the sources of funds of organized crime;
- Explain the security challenges;
- Describe impact on mission security;
- Identify direct impact for NATO-led forces;
- Identify the indirect impact for NATO-led forces;
- Explain why human trafficking is seen as a serious abuse of human rights
Duties of NATO-led Forces in Preventing Trafficking in Human Beings:
At the end of this module, you will able to:
- Describe role of NATO-led forces;
- Identify the recommended rules of behaviour;
- Describe common characteristics of victims;
- Identify places where you might encounter trafficking in human beings;
- Explain the fundamental principles of investigation;
- List the principles of good practices
