To provide students with foundational knowledge of the key doctrinal elements, principles of employment, organization, command relationship and current considerations for NATO Special Forces and Special Operations.

Learning Objectives
ROLE OF NATO SPECIAL OPERATIONS:
Given a set of parameters, the student will describe the characteristics, purpose, and mission sets of NATO special operations IAW references.
NATO SOF TASKS:
Given a set of parameters, the student will summarize the principal tasks assigned to NATO SOF, to include special air and special maritime operations, and how they complement conventional operations IAW references.
NATO SOF EMPLOYMENT AND INTEGRATION:
Given a set of parameters, the students will explain the policy authorizing special operations in NATO, the employment criteria and considerations, operational geometry and supported – supporting relationships.
NATO SOF COMMAND AND CONTROL (C2):
Given a set of parameters, the student will explain the NATO political and strategic command and control organization and how special operations are integrated into the NATO command and control structure.
Special Operations Component Command (SOCC) Command Liaison and Special Elements:
Given a set of parameters,the student will describe the roles and functions of SOCC command and liaison elements deployed throughout the joint force/combined joint task force organization, IAW references.
Special Operations Component Command (SOCC) within the Joint Forces Structure:
Given a set of parameters, the student will summarize the SOCC's role within the JFHQ IAW references.
Course Participants
Primary:
Military officers (OF-2 through OF-5) and NCOs (OR-6 through OR-9), or civilian equivalents, who are assigned, or selected for assignment, to the NATO Command and Force Structures, PfP Headquarters or Agencies, Ministry of Defense, or liaison.
Secondary:
Personnel assigned to any military MD or ICI headquarters, unit, or agency which fulfills responsibilities in support of NATO will also be considered.

Methodology
This one week course is comprised of formal lectures designed to provide students with a detailed understanding of the content being presented, followed by brief, moderated Q&A sessions.
Apart of this interactive plenary lecture, practical exercises (based on a Case Study) in small syndicates followed by back briefs to plenary and discussion with comments that amplify the classes, will be held. Multimedia means are used in a balanced and constructive combination to enhance internalization of information.
