Exercise Planning

Aim

The aim of this ADL Course is to provide a theoretical introduction and overview of the NATO joint and multinational exercise planning process as outlines in the Bi-Strategic Collective Training and Exercise Directive (Bi-SC CT&ED) 75-3, to ensure a qualified preparation for students prior the resident course attendance. The ADL course also provides familiarisation with the terms and definitions used in exercise planning, so that the student can easily follow the topics provided in the course.

This lesson in this course include various instructional components through use of multimedia and presentation technologies.
These online lectures present the key concepts of the EPF, which will give you a background prior attend the resident course.

This ADL Course is a prerequisite for the resident NATO Exercise Planning Course (EPC).

ADL courses can be accessed without the need for enrolment but students are required to register through the JADL portal using a military/government email address otherwise they will not be accepted.

Learning Objectives

Introduction to Exercise Planning: This lesson present the general aim and background to the Exercise Planning Course (EPC).
At the completion of this lesson, you will be able to:

- Describe the background and aim of the Exercise Planning Course.
- Identify the hierarchy and relationship between ETEE-related documents.
- Describe the responsibilities of the supported/supporting roles of SACEUR and SACT.
- Identify the similarities between the exercise process stages and the Systems Approach to Training (SAT) Model.

EPC Terms, Entities and Products: This lesson presents the terms most used in the exercise environment.
At the completion of this lesson you will be able to:

- Identify the basic terms of NATO exercise terminology
- Identify the definition and abbreviation of key entities in NATO's exercise planning process and their interrelation.
- Identify the definition and abbreviation of key products in NATO exercise planning process and their interrelation.

Exercise Planning Process: This lesson provides a brief and general overview of the NATO Exercise Process (EP).
At the completion of this lesson, you will be able to:

- Identify the stages of the Exercise Planning Process
- Identify the purpose and key activities in each stage of the Exercise Planning Process.

Course Assessment: To receive credit for this course you must complete the following 10 questions assessment with 100% correct.
If you do not pass, you will be given the opportunity to go back and review the course material and retake the assessment.

Methodology

This 4 hour ADL Course is to provide a theoretical introduction and overview of the NATO joint and multinational exercise planning process. It comprises of 3 lessons followed by a course assessment.
The course is mandatory for all NATO School students who are attending the resident Exercise Planning Course at NATO School.
