Learning Objectives

INTRODUCTION TO NATO SPECIAL OPERATIONS.: Given a set of parameters, the student will describe basic doctrinal definitions regarding SOF IAW references.

SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCES IN NATO.: Given a set of parameters, the student will describe evolution of C2 organization. Also will summarize general structure, missions and capabilities of SOF in partner countries IAW references.

NATO SOF OPERATIONAL IMPLICATIONS.: Given a set of parameters, the students will describe the role of SOF in Joint Combined Arms Operations, the SOF integration with Conventional Forces through the various liaison elements, structures and functions in regards of SOF and Conventional Forces needs, IAW references

OPTIMIZE NATO SOF ORGANIZATIONS: A series of syndicates during which students, based on the information received, try to create various examples of SOF structures and functions in regards of SOF and Conventional Forces needs, IAW references

Course Participants

The course is intended to facilitate discussions comparable to National Defense Universities or War Colleges among senior officers/leaders on the challenges of developing and integrating SOF forces.

Methodology

This one week course is comprised of formal lectures, designed to provide students with a detailed understanding of the content being presented, followed by moderated Q&A sessions.

Apart of the interactive plenary lectures, practical exercises (based on a Case study) in small syndicates followed by back briefs to plenary and extensive discussion with comments will be held. Multimedia means are used in a balanced and constructive combination to enhance internalization of information.
