Learning Objectives

NATO GOVERNANCE AND COMMAND & CONTROL: Given references, the student will be able to compare and contrast the overall governance of NATO, including the “consultation” aspect of various NATO organizations, to their similar national C3 concepts.

NATO DEFENCE AND NATO OPERATIONS PLANNING PROCESSES: Given references, the student will be able to explain the key steps in NATO’s Defence Planning and Operations Planning Processes.

NATO COMMAND & CONTROL CAPABILITIES AND PROCEDURES: Given references, the student will be able to identify key capabilities, procedures, and current issues within NATO C2 that affect the commander's decision-making process.

QUALITY AND INFORMATION ASSURANCE: Given references, the student will be able to identify aspects of quality and information assurance in NATO C3 organizations.

Course Participants

Military officers and NCOs or civilian equivalents, assigned to a NATO headquarters or agency, or a Ministry of Defence, Foreign Affairs department, or subordinate military headquarters, unit, or agency of any NATO member or partner country, which fulfils responsibilities in support of NATO Consultation, Command and Control.

Methodology

This one-week course is comprised of modules (or themes) that complement one other, supporting working within the NATO C3 environment. Within each module, discrete subject topics are presented depending upon the current global security situation.
A daily review of information starts each day and lectures end with an interactive Q & A. Syndicate work/ panel discussions are used to enable in-depth discussions. Unclassified course material (lecture notes) is available through the NATO School LMS

Further Information

This one-week course includes awareness of NATO C3 organizations and processes, the NATO planning procedures, Command and Control (Support) requirements, lessons learned from NATO operations, and related future aspects. The course is comprised of modules (or themes) that complement each other in the understanding of the NATO C3 environment.
