Learning Objectives

Force Protection Concepts: Given references, the student will apply NATO FP concepts to the operational planning and the threat assessment processes in accordance with NATO doctrine and policy.

Components of Force Protection: Given references, the student will explain the FP principles and elements in accordance with NATO doctrine and policy.

Force Protection Operations: Given references, the student will apply a FP operational component to a recent theatre experience in accordance with NATO doctrine and policy.

Course Participants

Military officers (OF-1 through OF-5) and NCOs (OR-6 through OR-9), or civilian equivalent, assigned to a NATO or PfP headquarters or agency, Ministry of Defence, Foreign Affairs department, or subordinate military headquarters, unit, or agency.

The OPR and/or CO-OPR will establish the prioritisation should the course be oversubscribed. Students pending an operational deployment, newly arrived in a NATO FP position, or projected for an assignment to a FP position will take priority.

Methodology

This one-week course is comprised of interactive lectures, followed by brief, moderated question-and-answer sessions. Syndicate exercises are conducted with subject matter experts from NATO response force mission fields.

Further Information

This course is meant as an introduction to the subject of FP during NATO operations. It is not designed to certify FP specialists and should not be used as a pre-deployment validation course for non-specialists who are expected to deploy into FP or FP-related positions in operational theatres.
