Learning Objectives

Security Issues: Given references, students will be able to explain current and future security issues of the Alliance member states, Partnership for Peace members, and other OSCE countries.

International and European Security Institutions: Given references, students will be able to explain the roles and missions of international and European security insitutions including the UN, OSCE, EU, and NATO.

Course Participants

Military officers (OF-1 through OF-5) and Military non-commissioned officers (OR-7 through 9) or civilian equivalent assigned to Ministries of Defense or Foreign Affairs or military headquarters and Agencies working at the strategic level.

Methodology

This one-week course is conducted using the following methods of instruction:

1. Formal, 45-minute lectures aimed at the second and third cognitive levels of instruction, followed by a 15-minute Q&A period.
2. Panel discussions in support of a preceding formal lecture.
3. Syndicate work (e.g. guided discussion, problem solving) to consolidate knowledge gained.

Further Information

Members are to complete Pre-requisite Training “ADL 037 Introduction to NATO ” or suitable experience confirmed by the successful completion of a Threshold Knowledge Test (TKT) prior to attending the course.

Graduates from NSO Course(s) M5-32/33 NATO Staff Officer /NCO Orientation Course are exempt from the specified pre-requisite.
