Learning Objectives

CBRN Defence Fundamentals: Given references, the student will explain the NATO CBRN Defence policy and NATO CBRN Defense organizational structure in accordance with NATO doctrine and standardization agreements.

CBRN Weapons, Threats, and Hazards: The student will describe general characteristics and effects of CBRN weapons or events and their operational impact in relation to NATO CBRN Defence in accordance with NATO doctrine and standarization agreements.

NATO CBRN Defence Components: Given references, the student will illustrate the components and capabilities of NATO CBRN Defence to mitigate possible effects of CBRN weapons or events in accordance with NATO doctrine and standardization agreements.

Course Participants

Military officers and NCOs (All Ranks), or civilian equivalents, who are selected for or assigned to CBRN Defence related functions at NATO Headquarters and NATO/PfP defence agencies and HQs, Foreign Affairs departments, or subordinate military headquarters, units, or agencies, as well as CBRN defence organizations which fulfil responsibilities in support of NATO CBRN operations.

Methodology

The course is structured to achieve lesson objectives through a series of methodically sequenced lectures followed by question and answer periods with class discussions. The intent of the course is to also facilitate an exchange of information and experience related to CBRN Defence within the NATO Alliance. Syndicate exercises and an off-site trip are conducted to reinforce learning objectives and facilitate student collaboration.
