Aim
To provide NATO members with foundational knowledge on current NATO Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and CBRN threat and risk assessments, mitigation measures to lessen the risk posed by WMD/CBRN threats, management of the consequences of CBRN incidents, implications of CBRN hazards on all operations, and the respective NATO CBRN defence policies, concepts, doctrines and procedures.

Learning Objectives
WMD/CBRN Threats:
Given references, the student will describe the key strategic and potential WMD/CBRN threats to NATO and the Alliance will face in the future.
NATO’S COMPREHENSIVE WMD/CBRN POLICY:
Given references, the student will explain principles of NATO’s current strategic-level WMD Non-Proliferation and CBRN Defence guidlines and directives.
NATO CBRN DEFENCE CONCEPTS & DOCTRINE:
Given references, the student will explain NATO CBRN doctrine and defence initiatives in accordance with NATO doctrine and policy.
NATO’S CBRN DEFENCE ORGANISATION:
Given references, the student will explain NATO’s CBRN staff structure and the respective responsibilities of entities dealing with WMD/CBRN threats and hazards.
NATO CBRN DEFENCE PLANNING AND CAPABILITY SHORTFALLS:
Given references, the student will explain NATO’s CBRN Defence Planning Process (NDPP), identify CBRN defence requirements, capability gaps, shortfalls and respective mitigation measures.
Course Participants
Military officers (OF-2 through OF-5) and NCO (OR-9) or civilian equivalent assigned to a NATO headquarters or agency, a Ministry of Defence, Foreign Affairs department or subordinate military headquarters, unit, or agency of any NATO country which fulfils responsibilities in the support of training NATO forces.
It is to the students advantage to be a graduated from the M3-70 NATO CBRN Defence Orientation Course or national equivalent.

Methodology
This one-week course is comprised of formal and interactive lectures, followed by brief, moderated question-and-answer sessions with practical exercises. Syndicate work and group presentations are included after each lesson block to reinforce learning objectives.
