Aim
Provide fundamental medical support planning knowledge for senior medical officers appointed to NATO/multinational headquarters or as national medical support planners that interact with NATO command structures.

Learning Objectives
Comprehend NATO Medical Command and Control Foundation:
Given references, students from different nations and cultures will describe NATO command, control, and force structures in accordance with current practices.
Explain Medical support to NATO operations and planning:
Given a scenario, students will explain terms and procedures specific to the NATO comprehensive operational planning process (COPD & OPP) and multinational medical support planning.
Describe NATO Medical Doctrine:
Given references, students will describe different levels and content of Medical Support Doctrine and policies.
Comprehend Medical support role in the NATO Comprehensive Approach:
Given scenarios, students will explain the role of medical support through the NATO comprehensive approach in joint multinational operations.
Course Participants
Military officers (OF-4 through OF-6) and their civilian equivalents serving in or selected for assignment to a NATO HQ (PE & CE) or agency as medical directors, medical advisors, or in a national senior medical staff position with involvement in NATO medical support coordination. Other students will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Methodology
This one-week course is comprised of lectures and syndicate work. Day 1 provides a broad overview of NATO structures, its operational and medical support planning processes. Day 2 focuses on NATOs comprehensive operational planning process (COPD & OPP) and how medical support planning contributes to them. Day 3 concentrates on different environments and special considerations. Days 4 and 5 have an emphasis on developing and presenting a concept of operation for medical support within a joint multinational operation.
