Working at the NSO

Join an international military community in the heart of the Bavarian Alps and become one of 200 personnel from more than 20 nations, military and civilian, working at the NATO SCHOOL Oberammergau (NSO)!

The NSO is a recognised NATO military body framed on a bi-national agreement between the Federal Republic of Germany and the United States of America. Together with our partners, we offer training and education to members of the Alliance, NATO partner nations and other nations around the globe.

The NSO is structured into three key areas where personnel with different backgrounds and experiences work together towards a common effort.

The Command Group:

The Commandant, his Deputy and the Command Senior Enlisted Leader are surrounded by a group of special staff such as a Protocol, Legal and Public Affairs. A Strategy, Plans and Policy Directorate coordinates outreach activities and constantly reviews and optimises the organization’s business.

Academics:

This is the heart of NSO. More than 80 course directors and course assistants ensure that 10,000 students receive relevant and stimulating training in a conducive and enriching learning environment. Browse the Academic pages to learn more about the NSO courses and the breadth of the curriculum.

Support Services:

It requires robust and capable support staff to enable the conduct of 250 course iterations and NATO led conferences per year. Personnel work in the fields of logistics and engineering, communication and information services as well as finance and security.

As everyone has their own career goal, the NSO offers a staff development programme which provides access to a range of courses and subsidized professional development opportunities.

The CJ-1 Personnel and Administration Department at the NSO looks forward to any job related questions. Please contact them for further information about job opportunities at the NSO.
