Travelling to the NATO School Oberammergau

Oberammergau is located in the southern part of Germany in the state of Bavaria (Bayern), in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. When in Oberammergau follow signs to the "NATO School." The main NSO campus is located at the top of the hill within the Bildungszentrum Bundeswehr (BIZ Bw).

Plane

Major airports are Munich, Germany (~ 125 km) or Innsbruck, Austria (~ 80 km).

By Car to Oberammergau

Take Highway A92 towards Munich. At the junction Neufahrn change to A9 direction Salzburg/Munich. Follow signs A95 towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen and continue route described above.

By Train to Oberammergau

Take train to Munich Central Station or Munich Pasing and follow route below via Murnau.

By Car to Oberammergau

Take B177 Direction Garmisch-Partenkirchen than take B2 towards Munich. At Oberau change to B23 towards Oberammergau.

By Train to Oberammergau

Take the train towards Murnau and change train to Oberammergau.

Car

From Munich (München)

Take Autobahn A95 direction Garmisch-Partenkirchen until it ends in Eschenlohe. Follow B2 to Oberau then turn right at signs and follow B23 to Oberammergau.

From Stuttgart

Follow Autobahn A8 towards Munich until the junction Ulm-Eichingen and change to A7 direction Kempten/Lindau/Füssen. Take Exit Kempten and follow B12 direction Marktoberdorf. Change to B472 towards Schongau. When entering Schongau, turn right before the roundabout on B17/B472 direction Garmisch-Partenkirchen and finally change to B23 towards Oberammergau.

Train

Travelling Munich to Oberammergau by train will take approximately three hours and require changing trains at the Munich Central Station and in the town of Murnau. The information booths in the Central Station provide the best on site directions.

Recommendation: Purchase the more economical “Bayern Ticket” for small groups. For additional information and directions see the attendants at the airport customer service information booths.

Main station is Munich Central or Munich Pasing. From there take the train towards Murnau and then change to the train to Oberammergau.
